Torta di Mele is to Italy as apple pie is to the United States. Made with fresh apples, this ‘apple cake’ is easy to make and adored by all ages!


  • 140 gr (1 cup) all-purpose flour
  • 100 gr (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 40 gr (3 tbls) butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 apples (mele)
  • ½ cup Marsala liquor
  • 1 lemon zest
  • 16 gr (1.5 tbls) yeast (or baking powder)
  • cinnamon and brown sugar to taste


Use mixer to combine eggs and sugar until fluffy.
Add melted butter, flour, yeast, liquor, and lemon zest. Mix well.
Lightly butter the inside of a round baking pan (20 cm diameter) and sprinkle with flour. Then evenly pour the mixture in the pan.
Peel and thinly slice the apples, adding lemon juice to avoid turning brown. Then arrange the slices in the pan, gently pushing them into the mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar to taste.
Bake in oven at 250 F for 40 minutes
